Ed Kashi and Julie Winokur of Talking Eyes Media were honored with the PDN Publisher’s Choice Award in the 2014 Photo Annual for their film “Syria’s Lost Generation.” Produced in conjunction with the International Medical Corps, a humanitarian non-profit organization that provides relief to people affected by conflict and crisis, this film tells the story of the refugee youth population – Syria’s next generation; one stuck in limbo in a foreign land with diminishing hope to return. Since Syria’s civil war began in March 2011, more than 2 million people seeking sanctuary from the raging violence have fled to neighboring countries. With over half of the refugee population under the age of 18, the psychological and emotional stability of Syria’s exiled youth is of particular concern.

Originally appearing on TIME’s Lightbox in January, this film was recognized with the Publisher’s Choice Award for “exceptional and noteworthy work.” Kashi and Winokur will be featured in a full-page ad in an upcoming issue of PDN in addition to a cash reward.
