Mathias Svold, born in 1991, is a documentary photographer based in Denmark. Besides pursuing personal long-term projects, he is working as a freelance photojournalist.
He has a strong interest in the relationship between humans and nature, and his work often investigates how climate, people, and communities affect nature. His stories aim to remind the viewers about our impact on nature as a society and often his work focuses on covering an area or theme telling small stories in a larger context.
Mathias graduated in 2017 from the Danish School of Media and Journalism’s four-year long photojournalism program where he interned for 18 months at the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten. His stories have been published in various media outlets such as The Washington Post, Feature Shoot, Politiken and Information.
In 2017, he was elected College Photographer of the Year and is nominated for the 2018 Joop Swart Masterclass. Mathias’ work has been recognized by the PDN Photo Annual, College Photographer of the Year and Pictures of the Year in Denmark. His project “COASTLAND” will be published as a photo book in the fall of 2018 along with several exhibitions.
Mathias is mentored by Joachim Ladefoged.
