VII Interactive: No Man’s Land. Identity through Personal and Subjective Narratives Workshop with Linda Bournane Engelberth (a women only workshop)

This women-only workshop focuses on identity through personal and subjective narratives. Participants will work on personal photographic projects that will be reviewed and critiqued in an interactive online environment by Linda Bournane Engelberth over a 14-week period.

Schedule

 

Week 1

Day 1: An introductory 3-hour group session where Linda shares her work and approaches to visual storytelling, using photography and social media.

Days 2 – 4: Each participant will have 3 days to prepare a written proposal for the work he or she will undertake during the subsequent 14 weeks and submit it to Linda.

Day 5: Linda will respond to the proposals in writing.

Day 6: A follow-up 3-hour group workshop session where participants present their finished proposals for projects that would be executed in the course of this workshop. You’ll review the concept, plan your projects, and figure out how to find the best collaborations (if appropriate) and identify the outcomes you desire.

Day 7: You’ll start to work on your project.

Week 2

On even numbered weeks, at the same time every week and over a 14-week period, Linda will conduct online live one-on-one tutorial sessions with you to answer questions, review work, and generally support your efforts. Each session will be 20 minutes long. 

Week 3

One-hour lecture and 30-minute Q&A by Linda and guest photographers.

Week 4

On even numbered weeks, at the same time every week and over a 14-week period, Linda will conduct online live one-on-one tutorial sessions with you to answer questions, review work, and generally support your efforts. Each session will be 20 minutes long. 

Week 5

One-hour lecture and 30-minute Q&A by Linda and guest photographers.

On even numbered weeks, at the same time every week and over a 14-week period, Linda will conduct online live one-on-one tutorial sessions with you to answer questions, review work, and generally support your efforts. Each session will be 20 minutes long. 

Week 7

One-hour lecture and 30-minute Q&A by Linda and guest photographers.

Week 8

On even numbered weeks, at the same time every week and over a 14-week period, Linda will conduct online live one-on-one tutorial sessions with you to answer questions, review work, and generally support your efforts. Each session will be 20 minutes long. 

Week 9

One-hour lecture and 30-minute Q&A by Linda and guest photographers.

Week 10

On even numbered weeks, at the same time every week and over a 14-week period, Linda will conduct online live one-on-one tutorial sessions with you to answer questions, review work, and generally support your efforts. Each session will be 20 minutes long. 

Week 11

One-hour lecture and 30-minute Q&A by Linda and guest photographers.

Week 12

On even numbered weeks, at the same time every week and over a 14-week period, Linda will conduct online live one-on-one tutorial sessions with you to answer questions, review work, and generally support your efforts. Each session will be 20 minutes long. 

Week 13

One-hour lecture and 30-minute Q&A by Linda and guest photographers.

Week 14

Editing period: You’ll submit your work and collaborate on an edit with Linda. Each edit will be comprised of one written review and a 30-minute editing session.

At the end of the course, there will be a group presentation of participants’ work. Excerpts from everyone’s work will be hosted on the VII Instagram as a curated story.

About the Instructor

Linda Bournane Engelberth is a Norwegian/Algerian artist based in Oslo and Berlin. She holds an advanced craft certificate in photography and a BA in History of Art. Her work focuses on identity through personal and subjective narratives, as well as rural communities which are in flux.  Her most recent work has been exhibited at the Henie Onstad Art center, Norway, Die Haus der Photographie, Deichtorhallen, Hamburg, DUMBO Art Festival, New York and Noplace, Oslo, among several other exhibitions in Norway, the US, and Europe. From 2011-2013, she was selected for the Norwegian Journal of Photography, a program supporting ten independent photographers in Norway. Her work was selected for the European Photo Exhibition Award 2014.
