Photographer Seamus Murphy and writer Eliza Griswold discuss their joint project on the contemporary poetry of Afghanistan’s women and its reflection of Afghan life. The interview coincides with Poetry Magazine’s June 2013 issue, which is devoted entirely to Murphy and Griswold’s coverage of female Afghan poets and the centuries-old custom of the “landay,” or two-line poem passed along in the oral tradition. Murphy’s images, previously unpublished, represent almost 20 years of work and travel throughout Afghanistan.
