Join us for a special event where we bring together three legendary storytellers — Jon Swain, Roland Neveu, and Gary Knight — to discuss their engagement with Cambodia over the last 50 years. Jon Swain’s character is depicted in the movie, “The Killing Fields,” and his memoir River of Time is currently being written as a Hollywood film script. Both Swain and Neveu were on the last convoy out of Cambodia from where they had been holed up in the French Embassy when the Khmer Rouge took over. All are authors in the VII Foundation’s new book, Imagine: Reflections of Peace. Neveu (“Cambodia Then”) and Knight (“Cambodia Now”) both contribute photographic essays, while Jon Swain writes the accompanying reflection on Cambodia after its brutal civil war.

Roland Neveu

Roland Neveu

Roland Neveu is a French photographer who in 1975 photographed the fall of Phnom Penh to the Khmer Rouge. In much of his work in the following two decades he covered conflict. In the 1980s he photographed the stills for Oliver Stone’s feature film Platoon. Since then he has done still photography with major Hollywood directors. He now lives in Bangkok.

Jon Swain

Jon Swain

Jon Swain was the only British journalist on the ground in Phnom Penh when it fell to the Khmer Rouge in April 1975. The British Press Awards named him Journalist of the Year for his coverage of that event. Roland Joffé’s Oscar-winning film The Killing Fields depicted him as a character. He was a staff correspondent for many years at The Sunday Times of London.

Gary Knight

Gary Knight

Gary Knight is a photographer and the principal architect of the VII Photo Agency. He is the co-founder and director of the VII Foundation and the president and founder of the VII Academy in Arles, France, and Sarajevo, Bosnia. He began his career photographing in Southeast Asia in the 1980s.
