Food as trade, culture, conviviality. Sometimes, cause of desperation. Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life is the theme of Expo Milano 2015.
These pictures, taken in Afghanistan between 1998 and 2001 – before the attack on the Twin Towers are moments collateral to immediate violence of the war: the distribution of food rations, the production of bread, tents used as kitchens. Scenes of everyday life marked by degradation and pain, yet imbued with dignity.
